Bamiyan Buddha statue 10"

Bamiyan Buddha statue 10"

BAMIYAN BUDDHA -- The Statues Destroyed in Afghanistan in the year 500 C.E. by traders on the world's only superhighway, the Silk Road, traveled from Persia to China bearing riches and wares. As they neared the Hindu Kush mountains and the city of Bamiyan two giant Buddha statues came into view towering over the road and casting their blessings on all who passed.

At that time Afghanistan was a center of learning and a cultural crossroads. The 175-foot tall statues were built with the help of Greek and Roman artists and Indian engineers and were the first large monuments of Buddhist art in the world. Made from stone with wood, rope, and plaster frames the golden faces and arms stood out from brightly colored red and blue robes, and must have been stunning as the sun shone of the cliff faces.

Small caves in the rock wall were inhabited by ascetic monks who painted scenes of the life of Buddha inside. The Buddhist community also existed with Persian rulers for many centuries, until the invading armies of Ghengis Khan wiped the Bamiyan inhabitants from the face of the earth in the year 1200 C.E. The statues themselves remained until the year 2000 C.E., when they were destroyed by the Taliban. We offer this reproduction as an act of rebuilding and a sign of peace.

Medicine Buddha 9.5"

Medicine Buddha is essential for healers and is invoked for cures both mental and physical. Buddha's most important quality in this role is his color, the deep blue of lapis lazuli, which symbolizes all things pure and rare and has demonstrable effects when used in healing visualization.

Palm in the outward mudra of blessing, this quiet deity holds a pot of healing herbs and floats upon the Blue Lotus of Healing. A gift especially suited for all doctors, nurses, patients and midwives.[image from a Tibetan tanka, date unknown]

Prajnaparamita 9.5"

The Female Buddha, Her grace embodies the feminine aspect of the supreme Buddha and offers a sublime metaphor for your own meditation. This image of Prajnaparamita may also be an idealized portrait of a 13th century Javanese dynastic queen.

Notice how the material wealth of her jewelry and clothing heightens the contrast with her profoundly spiritual posture. She is Goddess of Transcendental Wisdom, similar in importance to Saviouress and Mother Goddess Tara. Allow her exquisite visual and inner message to enter your domain.

Bronze colored Gypsumstone.
